Carl Allison

Carl Allison, age 41, starting weight 236

Carl is the father of twin boys and a husband. He  doesn't need any other motivation to want to live a healthier, longer, life.

Carl's essay quote:
"I am a former basketball player, fitness instructor, and weight lifter. I love exercise but my discipline has waned a lot now that I am in my forties. I truly need your help!"

Week one testimonial

"Well this week confirmed my two biggest fears and my two biggest hopes to conquer them. My fears are that 1) I am VERY badly out of shape, and 2) losing weight after the age of 40 is not easy! My hopes are 1) a good team to help cheer you through this is beneficial and we have that at BB, and 2) Better Bodies is THE place to be to overcome such fears, or rather obstacles. While the trainers were all different I did not necessarily like one better than the other as all three exercise days were challenging in their own right. Misty was just brutal (I love it) because if there was even the slightest pause in the action we had to keep doing something, whether it be jumping jacks, running in place, etc. I felt like I had to even run to get a drink just to get back to keep running - WOW, how is that for insane! Then there is Anthony, who is very creative in how he makes up "events" to cause pain...more lengthy cardio, which is something I struggle with, and an attitude that if he didn't break us this time, he will next - I love that as well! Dave was the most deceptive stating that "Sunday's would be easy" - at least that is what I heard! Far from it as working on the core, or in my case the "keg," definitely shows me how far I have to go! He was absolutely right about one thing: I will never ask again what a plank is!! This is a journey, not a sprint, and thank the Lord because I am a slow starter but look forward to an awesome journey!"

Week two

"FINALLY some weight loss this week! This whole diet and exercise thing seems to really work...imagine that. While the diet works the temptation to dive into those Fritos or devour that Nestle Chocolate Bar is getting worse. I have faith that this too shall pass and in the long run all will work out."

Week three

Great to see the team still going strong! We are getting psyched up for the first challenge, whatever that will be. I must say that Anthony CRUSHED my lower abs on Friday...CRUSHED them GOOD. I have never had such pain before in my abs, which is a good sort of pain. Mr. Smith, have I told you yet how much I hate the "Outback Run"?!?! Even though Anthony was there Sunday it was you I had in mind as all of those words came to mind. Cardio remains my weak link as it continues to frustrate me but I only have me to blame as I worked the weights on and off for 20 years and not the lungs. My family has been a ROCK during all of this and I think they will be there at the challenge to root on TEAM BLUE!!

Week four
While I must say how good it feels to win an elimination challenge I must also say, for me, how tough it is getting to remain focused on the diet, etc.  Losing weight every week is one thing that keeps me going, but it is the team that gets me to the gym!  I am with a bunch of awesome people!  For some reason this past Sunday's workout really drained me of my energy - thank the Lord I was off Monday as I could barely move: talk abut feeling my age!

It has now been about seven weeks and I have lost about half of my goal I am more motivated to continue as my overall health has improved. I have more energy, especially on Friday afternoons when there is a challenge!!! My diet has stabilized and while at times it is a struggle, it is not nearly as difficult, especially with the support of our team and my family!
